Clear Aligner Studio - Fundamentals

Clear Aligner Studio training focusing on the workflow, patient management, scans and treatment planning.

Introduction

Welcome to the Clear Aligner Studio training. In this section we will give you an overview of various steps that are required to scan, plan, design and produce aligners. We will also show you how 3Shape Clear Aligner Studio can help you at every step.

Patient management

The 3Shape Clear Aligner Studio requires a digital impression file to create clear aligner models. If you wish to learn how to take digital impressions with TRIOS, we recommend that you complete the TRIOS Fundamentals training or just remind yourself how to scan for clear aligners.

If you already have digital scans, please continue in this section to see how to create a case for clear aligners.

Get the scans ready for treatment

Before a model can be printed it is necessary to add a virtual base to the scan.

In the section you will learn how to add the virtual base and how to modify its shape. This enables you to save printing materials during the 3D printing process and ensures higher accuracy during thermoforming. The virtual base also allows you to add id tags to the scans.

Perform the clear aligner treatment

In this section you will learn how to prepare the model so that you are ready to start planning the clear aligner treatment. The following steps guides you through the workflow.

Setting up planes

Start by applying orientation planes, such as the occlusal plane and the sagittal plane. This will aid with orienting the models correctly.

Segmenting the upper and lower jaw

Segmentation divides the teeth into separate 3D objects to enable individual tooth movements. The software will assist you in defining where individual teeth begin and end, and how the gingiva contours are laid out. The long axis and rotation center are also defined.

Defining the ideal arch

You can define an ideal arch that will act as a design guideline when the teeth are moved to the ideal setup. This step is not mandatory and can be skipped if desired.

The virtual setup

At this step you will design the clear aligner treatment using a variety of features and tools.

Creating the report

You can create a report after finishing the case, this will give a complete overview of stages, attachment placement and IPR. This is needed to organise the patient's treatment.
